On Wednesday, December 18th, I had the privilege of going with our CEO to one of the homes we support in the Salt Lake Valley. Not just any home, but the birthplace of Danville Services over 38 years ago. It seems perfectly fitting that we visited the place where the incredible idea of Danville Services started, to celebrate two women that stand for everything that we have always strived to be as a company.
To truly understand who these women are and the impact they have had, you only need to spend a few moments observing their interactions with the ladies they support. In those moments, you will see and feel genuine love and care. You will see that love reciprocated back along with a trust that could only be established through decades worth of quality care and dedication.
Marsha Roth and Lori Yengich both started in this field over 35 years ago. Marsha started with Danville, while Lori started elsewhere. Lori would end up taking a break from supporting individuals for a couple of decades while she worked with her family but came back to this field with us almost 13 years ago. Marsha has been a Danvillian for her entire career. Both ladies are the gold standard of everything we could hope for in our Direct Support Professionals.
Last Wednesday afternoon marked a very special occasion for these ladies. Marsha and Lori have reached the summit of their careers and will be retiring. We are filled with joy that they get to embark upon this next exciting chapter in their lives. They were gracious enough to allow us to ask them some questions about their time with Danville:
Question:
What do you remember about your first day with Danville?
Marsha:
I remember being scared to death! I was hoping I could do everything and do it well. Now I can’t imagine doing anything else for my entire career.
Lori:
I was coming back into the field and curious as to how it would be with Danville. I quickly became excited that they cared about the right things!
Question:
What have you learned about yourself from being a Direct Support Professional for Danville?
Marsha:
I have learned patience, both for myself and the people we support. They have taught me so much about life and love. There are many experiences I have had that will hold a sacred place in my heart.
Lori:
Love. They have taught me about love on a whole different level. I remember how meaningful it was to see them recognize me and want me to support them. I had earned that relationship with them.
Question:
What are you excited to do in your retirement?
Lori:
I will have the time to paint more! I am a big Bob Ross fan.
Marsha:
I also love art! I am hoping to be able to find more time to do that.
Marsha & Lori, please know of our heartfelt gratitude for everything you have done during your time here at Danville. We are a better company because of both of you! We are anxious to keep in touch and hear about your next adventures in retirement.
